Alma
Jackson
Sep 29, 1939 — May 3, 2022
Mrs. Alma Anna B Jackson was born September 29, 1939, in Golden Garden, IL to Freida Mozella Daniels – Williams and Booker T. Jackson Sr. Alma confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She grew up in East St. Louis, IL. area, where she completed her education at Lincoln Jr. High of East St. Louis and Love Joy High School of Brooklynn, IL.
In the late 1950's, Alma found the love of her life in a young man from St. Louis, MO, Mr. Willie Burnett Jackson. On August 1, 1957, they were united in holy matrimony. To this union five children were born, and Willie also blessed Alma with 3 additional sons from a previous relationship. This was the fuel to ignite one of her passions, FAMILY. They had the house that everyone wanted too always be at. A house filled with love, laughter, cards, and food.
Alma was employed with the Board of Review Office of St. Clair County, IL until she retired.
Alma, affectionally known as Big Mama, loved her children and all the children that came from them, she loved family. She loved her fashion and jewelry, and be cautious, those cute earrings you have on may end up in her ears if she sees you with them on. You also could not keep her from a good Bingo night or out at the Casino with family and friends.
Family gathering were always a must, and after moving to Bellville, IL with her special girl Tameisha "Mimi" Taylor, the new house gave her more room to have family and friends around more. Our gatherings many times included her favorite bar-b-que or fish fry made by her loving God-Son, Robert Boyd.
Alma lived a life of love, family, friends, and laughter. Always surrounded by special people: God-Sisters: Claudia Nash, Shirley Thomas, Fannie Reives, Doreathea Alexander, and Wanikia "Loraine" Hannah; God-Brother: Houston Alexander; Special Cousins: Francis Sargent (Josephine), Dr. Willie B Jackson, Edward (Buster) Jackson; Special Classmates: Velma Gaines and Florestine Jethro.
Alma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie B. Jackson; her parents, Freida M. Williams – Daniels and Booker T. Jackson; her sister, Florence Chandler; her brothers, Author Williams, Booker T. Jackson Jr., Clifford Jackson; her sons, Henry L. (Frog) Jackson and Willie D. (Buddy) Jackson; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Jackson and several aunts and uncles. The Lord loved Alma and welcomed her home the evening of Tuesday, May 3, 2022., her heavenly family was waiting.
Alma (Big Mama) leaves to cherish her memory: her children, BookerT B. Jackson Sr., Cedric A. Jackson Sr., Felicia Jackson Gray (Calvin Sr.), Geneva M. Jackson-Watkins (Johnny), Fritzgerald "Uncle Man" R. Jackson, Kenneth "Pete" Jackson; her special brother -in- law Alvin "Stone" Jackson (Mary); her step-sisters, Bertha Mae Jackson and Dorothy Lee Grandberry; 36 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren with 2 still cooking; 1great-great grandchild that is still cooking; a host of nieces, nephews, God-children, and friends.
Alma "Big Mama" will be greatly missed, but we all know Big Mama was about love and family and that is what we all are and forever will be because of two special people falling in love.
