Alice J. Wren Pryor was the third of four children born to the union of the late Ada Bell Clark and Robert Wren on June 26, 1937 in East St. Louis, Illinois.
Alice, affectionately known as Al, was educated in East St. Louis District 189. She fondly talked about the year that she started primary school when her brother, Clark, wanted to tag along. Although Clark was not school age, special permission was given for him to accompany his sister.
With the same spirit that she used to hold her brother's hand and let him share her school experience, Alice embodied that same spirit throughout her life. She took care of many when they were in need or faced formidable illnesses.
Alice attended the Coralena Fennoy Beauty School and worked as a licensed cosmetologist. She also worked in the garment industry and retired from Aquarius LTD in 2012 after working there for 30 years.
Alice frequently talked about getting her daughter grown which included providing Herculean support with modest resources. In addition to raising Chiquita, she had a huge part in raising many nieces and nephews.
In sports, there is a phenomenon called choosing a champion and there was no better person to have on your side than Alice who enjoyed watching the Los Angeles Lakers, a longtime favorite, until recently when she took a liking to Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
Like Stephen Curry, Alice was a superstar but a balanced person who shared the court with her teammates. It's fitting that the solar eclipse happened during the week that Alice completed her journey on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 because she was a natural, phenomenal woman with raw mental and emotional intelligence. We are unimaginably lucky to have shared this earthly experience with her. Alice's love and generosity were palpable and expressed.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter -- pride and joy, Chiquita G. Stuckey; Everett Stuckey, son-in-law; Everett Stuckey, grandson; Daryl E. Wren, nephew/son; a special nephew, Edrick C. Wren, and a special niece, Andrea Michelle Wren; a host of other nieces, nephews and relatives that she loved unconditionally plus one very special Shih Tzu, Teddy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Robert T. Wren, Leatha Wren Palmer, and Clark A. Wren.
