Alice Loretta
Burnett
Feb 18, 1939 — Dec 3, 2025
Alice Loretta Lofton-Burnett was born on February 18, 1939 in East St. Louis, Illinois to the late Eliza Hall-Lofton and Theodore Lofton Sr. She passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
A lifelong resident of East St. Louis, Alice lived a life full of rhythm, creativity, strength, and love. From a young age, she had a deep passion for dancing. As a child, she and her sister Francis would dance to the Victrola at their grandmother's house. That love for movement never faded. Alice was especially proud of dancing to "Boots On The Ground", and even during illness, she continued to dance with grace and joy. She was a proud member of the East Boogie Sliders Dance Group and stayed active through water aerobics.
Alice was a gifted quilter and a phenomenal cook, especially known for her fried corn cakes and barbecued snoots. She loved going to the casino and playing lottery scratch-offs, enjoying life's simple pleasures.
She attended elementary and high school in East St. Louis and later graduated from Mary Curtis Beauty School, becoming a trained cosmetologist.
Alice was preceded in death by her sons, Garland Hill and Andre Burnett; her daughter, Diane Burnett; her parents; her siblings, Francis Claudia Bea Lofton-Poe, Marlene George-Merchant, Bobetta Lofton-Broach, Henry Lofton, Robert Paul Lofton, Rosalie Lofton, Theodore Lofton Jr., and Charles L. Jones.
She is survived by her beloved children, JoAnn "Dee Dee" Hill, Lindsay Burnett, Joyce A. Burnett, Leonard Burnett, Faye Burnett, Alan Ray Burnett (Sheila), Betty Miller, Larry Miller, and Edward Carpenter; her sister, Geraldine Dixon; 22 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 37 great-great grandchildren, along with extended family and dear friends.
Alice will be remembered for her unconditional love, dancing feet, her warm laughter, and her zest for life.
