Mr. Alex Gilbert was born on September 28, 1928 in Scooba, Mississippi to the union of Ernest Gilbert and Cassie McClaeb Gilbert. He spent his youth in Scooba, receiving his education in the elementary, junior high and high school.
He confessed a hope in Jesus Christ in 1942 at Kemper Bell Baptist Church of Scooba, Mississippi. He united in Holy Matrimony to Louise Caswell in 1949. Alex moved to the metro-east area in the early 1950s from Scooba, Mississippi. He was a dedicated worker at Hunter's Packing Company on Goose Hill until closing in the late 1960s. Alex was employed at American Car and Foundry in St. Louis, Missouri until his retirement in the 1980s.
After retiring his hobby was making pallets for various contractors. Alex loved his family especially his big brother Lonnie (LA) Gilbert. They would sit around in their cars having good conversation filled with laughter talking about good times. Alex was known best as Daddy, Granddaddy, Gilbert and Uncle "Elec". His siblings that preceded him in death, include two sisters, Eula Mae Gilbert Mumphard and Luella Gilbert Medcalf and one brother, Lonnie LA Gilbert.
On Thursday, January 4, 2018, another soldier ended his tour of duty on the battlefield for the Lord. The Lord called and Alex answered. As other family members are welcoming him home, on this side, Alex leaves to mourn and celebrate his passing, daughters, Lillie Caswell, Geneva Gilbert, Minnie (Robert) Hickman and Patricia Blue; sons, Charles Blue and Willie Blue; numerous grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
