Albert L. Hopson (aka Hoppy) was born on December 25, 1931 to Mamie Boyd in Lauderdale, Mississippi. He grew up and was educated in the Mississippi Public School System. As a child, Albert confessed a hope in Christ.
Albert left Mississippi and moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he united with Cote Brilliant Presbyterian Church. He was very active, serving on the usher board. Also while in St. Louis, he became active with the Masons. In the early 70's Albert again moved, this time across the river to East St. Louis, Illinois, which he made his home.

Albert met his beloved wife, Valerie L. Hopson in 1997. They united in wedlock on July 10, 1999. He loved riding his motorcycles and going to the movies. Barbecue and grits were a couple of his favorite foods, having grits for breakfast every morning.
