Obituary

Adaann Gates was born on January 15, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Wheeler Ewing Sr. and the late Malissia Leatherwood-Ewing. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Lamarian Gates Sr. who was the love of her life for 35+ years. Adaann also lost her beloved son, Lamarian Gates, Jr., "Little Jake" as she affectionately called him, and her older brother, Wheeler Ewing Jr., whom she loved dearly.

Adaann confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at her grandmother's church, the Baptist Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prairie, Mississippi. In her later years, she became a Jehovah's witness.

In addition, she attended the public school system in East St. Louis, Illinois School District #189 and graduated from East St. Louis Senior High School.

Adaann was a very energetic person that was open to different causes and movements such as the Black Power and Angela Davis era. Adaann was definitely a people's person. Adaann's hobbies included gardening, watching movies, and drawing in which she loved being in competition with her big brother, Lee Ewing to see who was the best drawer, and of course he would say, "You win little sis."

She was a manager at Church's Chicken at 25th & State Street in East St. Louis and also a manager at Taco Bell in Fairview Heights, IL, she worked in the Dietary Department at Rosewood Convalescent Home in Swansea, IL, and lastly as a Dietician at Christian Welfare Hospital in East St. Louis, Illinois, prior to her passing, Adaann resided at Willowcreek Nursing Home.

Adaann departed this life on June 2, 2025.
